Excerpt from Prehistoric Thessaly: Being a few Account of modern Excavations and Explorations in North-Eastern Greece From Lake Kopais to the Borders of Macedonia

The current paintings is an try and gather in a handy shape the entire archaeological facts as but on hand for the prehistoric interval in North-Eastern Greece. Chapters I - X, that are in basic terms descriptive, include complete bills of our personal excavations with a precis of the discoveries of others. those we are hoping can be of everlasting price, yet how some distance the theories recommend within the different chapters will be justified time on my own can show.

Our personal excavations in North Greece have all been performed less than the aegis of the British university at Athens, of which we're scholars. Our guides in reference to them are as follows:

1907. "Excavations at Theotoku," A. J. B. W., J. P. suspend, B.S.A. XIII, pp. 309 ff.

1908. "Excavations at Zerelia," A. J. B. W., J. P. suspend, M. S. T., B.S.A. XIV, p. 197. "Early Civilisation in North Greece," A. J. B. W., J. P. suspend, M. S. T., Liverpool Annals, 1908, pp. 118 ff., 131 ff. "The Connection of the Aegean Civilisation with primary Europe," T. E. Peet, A. J. B. W., M. S. T., Classical assessment, 1908, pp. 233 ff.

1909. "Excavations at Lianokladhi, and Tsani Maghula," A. J. B. W., M. S. T., Liverpool Annals, 1909, pp. 149 ff. "Prehistoric Mounds in Macedonia," A. J. B. W., M. S. T., ibid. pp. 159 ff. "The Connection of the Aegean tradition with Servia," M. S. T., A. J. B. W., Classical assessment, 1909, pp. 209 ff.

1910. "Excavations at Tsangli, and Rakhmani," see Dawkins, J.H.S. 1910, p. 360; Reinach, Rev. Arch. 1910, II, pp. 429 ff.

A paper containing an early draft of a part of bankruptcy i used to be learn at a gathering of the learn Committee of the Royal Geographical Society, and has been released within the Geographical magazine, Vol. XXXVII, pp. 631 ff. of those courses these giving stories of our excavations are outdated through the current paintings, and the perspectives expressed within the different papers are to be changed in line with Chapters XI - XVII and Appendix I. Mr Droop's enforced absence considering that 1909 has proved an irreparable loss. in the course of our excavations at Lianokladhi and Tsani we have been lucky in having the help of Mr T. E. Peet, due to the generosity of the British university at Athens.

As regards the transliteration of historic Greek we've got the method suggested via the British university at Athens. in line with this all Greek phrases and names are preserved within the Greek types, and in simple terms those who are in universal use are Latinised. it can be concept that we have got Latinised too many names, yet we expect that the normal reader will realize Chaeronea extra simply than Chaironeia.
